Dear Valued Customers and Friends,

It is with mixed emotions that Kelly and I have decided to end production of our artisan soups and specialty foods on February 26th, 2021.  After a great deal of soul searching, we have decided the time is right to end our journey.  THANK YOU for all your support over the years.

Although we will miss many aspects of this experience, Kelly and I look forward to what the future holds for us.

Product will be available in stores and our retail outlet until inventory is no longer available.

Spoon & Ladle is based in Birmingham, Alabama, and today offers soup selections and other specialty foods to grocers and restaurants who seek artisan soup with Southern soul. We slowly layer seasonal, fresh ingredients to craft soups that grace tables with a sense of place. Our from-scratch recipes speak of warmth and balance, and are defined by unexpected blends of fresh, seasonal ingredients and vibrant flavors that are distinctive and memorable. Under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Monty Todd, Spoon & Ladle soups and specialty foods are made in small batches with meticulous care and without compromise.

Monty Todd

was born in Montgomery, Alabama in June of 1961. Raised by his mother, a single parent of four children, he learned at a very young age that if he wanted food that he enjoyed rather than food for food’s sake, he was going to have to take matters into his own hands. He spent summers with his grandparents in a small West Alabama town, tending their large garden and falling in love with food, cooking and the great outdoors. He learned culinary skills from his grandmother, Snowie Hall, who cooked three fabulous meals a day, utilizing fresh ingredients from the garden. She taught Monty her recipes and her techniques….although some were stolen when she wasn’t looking.

Monty cooks for relaxation. He cooks for meditation. He cooks to see the looks on peoples face when they are pleased. Many soup recipes later, he is still cooking to see people’s reaction, and to see just how far his creativity can go.
